Care for ʻĀina Now

On a mission to conserve our bicultural resources, invest in ʻāina resilience, and fund environmental stewardship that keeps our communities safe.

Why now?

Hawai’i is experiencing the worst consequences of climate change, with our communities on the frontlines of fires, floods, extreme weather and coastal erosion. With escalating threats to our ecosystems, there is an immediate need to invest in proactive environmental protection for the public safety of our communities. We must invest in natural resource protection and restoration to build resilience across our ecosystems and communities.

Hawaiʻi’s ecosystems and biocultural resources provide over $6 billion in value to our economy each year. These vital resources and ecosystems underpin our culture, livelihoods, and tourism sector but we underinvest in this “green infrastructure,” by committing only 1% of our state budget each year to our environment.

Then we must…

If we want to…

  • Invest in ‘āina and community driven solutions

  • Restore and protect the environment that sustains local jobs

  • Empower environmental stewardship with funding

  • Protect communities from climate shocks and distasters

  • Sustain economic livelihoods of residents

  • Preserve the cultural resources of Hawai’i

We cannot wait.

The consequences of neglecting natural resource management are here now and devastating. We cannot protect our people without keeping their environment healthy, and that requires significant funding to heal, restore, and protect our communities. Without immediate investment, the public safety of our community is at risk.
